The Mission of The Mushroom Festival is to promote the
mushroom, educate consumers about the health benefits of
mushrooms and to promote tourism in Southern Chester County,
all while financially supporting local and regional
charities through a grant process. |
The Mushroom Festival
is celebrating its 23rd Anniversary!
Our group is made up of hard-working, fun-loving, enthusiastic
volunteers who come together to plan the biggest event held in
Southern Chester County each year – always the weekend after Labor
Day!
Kennett Square, Pennsylvania has long been known as “The Mushroom
Capital of the World,” with more mushroom growing operations
concentrated in the Southern Chester County area than any other area
in the United States. The Mushroom Festival promotes our favorite
crop, MUSHROOMS, Kennett Square and tourism in Southern Chester
County. Over 100,000 visitors come from far and wide to experience
our “Small Town America” Festival.
The Mushroom Festival is a volunteer organization whose
proceeds are
distributed to a wide variety of charities and organizations
benefiting the residents of Kennett Square and the surrounding
communities. In addition to local non-profit organizations, we also
support the National Prostate Cancer Coalition and Easter Seals of
Southeastern Pennsylvania.
This year's Festival is made possible by the generous financial
support of our mushroom industry, other local businesses and
organizations, a grant from the Chester County Conference and
Visitor's Bureau and The Chester County Hospital. We would like to
sincerely thank the aforementioned along with the
supporting businesses that have
donated goods and services.
We always welcome new volunteers! Last year, over 300 volunteers
came together to make the 2007 Festival an experience like no other
in the area. We encourage you to
join the fun. We also welcome students needing community service
hours.
Plan your vacation to include the Mushroom Festival! We are just
minutes from Longwood
Gardens, the
Brandywine River Museum, the
Brandywine
Battlefield, and many other world class attractions. You will be
glad you did!
Travelocity voted The Mushroom Festival one of the top 10 festivals
in Pennsylvania. We’re also featured on the Food Network’s All
American Festival show.
